Recently it was announced that the Government has committed extra funding to Cornwall in a bid to improve the region's roads and highways.
For a while now it has been clear that the problems of potholes and wider highways maintenance issues have needed to be resolved. This funding boost of just over £10 million will help alleviate some of the problems that many motorists across the constituency have experienced from filling in potholes to keeping local bridges and structures open and safe, and assisting with other minor highways works that may be needed.
The funding was announced at the Autumn Budget by the Chancellor, Philip Hammond, in an effort to keep Britain moving. This represents a significant boost in road maintenance across the country and is on top of £950 million that the country are already providing to councils across the country this year for local highways maintenance.
George said, "I welcome the news of this investment on Cornwall's roads and highways. Whilst £10 million will not be enough to solve all of the problems on the roads its a step in the right direction and helps to put right the years of under investment from the previous Labour Government."
