George Eustice, Member of Parliament for Camborne, Redruth and Hayle has welcomed the news of the completion of refurbishment works to the Lamorna Ward and Minor Injuries Unit at Camborne and Redruth Community Hospital.
The project devised and delivered by Cornwall Partnership Foundation Trust (CPFT) and the site’s landlord, NHS Property Services (NHSPS) has seen a major overhaul of the 18-bed inpatient ward’s interior, including upgrades to electric and bed head services, the laying of new floor coverings and the redecoration of the interior. The £5.6 million project is aimed at providing a modern and fit for purpose facility that enables hard-working clinicians to deliver excellent patient care.
On his visit to Lamorna Ward, Mr Eustice was shown the result of the works and was introduced to its matron, Sue Greenwood MBE, who has been a major driving force behind delivering the project. He also met with representatives from the project partners, James Wakeham (NHSPS), Debbie Richards (CPFT) and Margaret Schwarz (CPFT).
The new and much-improved unit opened its doors to the community in October and is currently being put to good use by the community.
Following the visit, the Rt Hon George Eustice MP, Member of Parliament for Camborne and Redruth, commented, “it was brilliant to visit the hard-working staff at Camborne and Redruth Community Hospital and to tour their new facilities recently.
“Throughout the Pandemic, those working for the NHS and in social care have worked tirelessly to ensure that our country was not overwhelmed by the virus. It is very welcome that the residents will now have access to modern, high-grade facilities near their homes rather than having to travel all the way to Truro as has been the case in the past”.
Sue Greenwood MBE, Matron at Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, also added, “It was my pleasure to share all the improvements that have been made at Camborne Redruth Community Hospital today with our local MP.
“The changes have made such a difference to the people we care for and the staff that work within Carn Brea Ward. The environment is bright and modern and provides a space that supports the best we can deliver to our community. Thank you to NHS PS, James Wakham Tom Cook and RMD Developments who have been amazing to work with.”
James Wakeham, Principal Construction Manager (South West region) at NHS Property Services said: “The partners on this project are very pleased with the results of our work to Lamorna Ward and hope that this much lighter, the brighter unit will provide a much better environment for local people to receive care in.
What we are most proud of, however, is our close-working with the Trust and frontline staff like Sue in delivering something that truly addresses local needs.”
