Recently the Government announced that £30 million will be allocated to the Rough Sleeping Initiative across England. From this funding, Cornwall will be receiving £437,489 representing a significant first step in the government's manifesto commitment of halving rough sleeping by 2022 and eliminating it altogether by 2027.
The funding for the Rough Sleepers initiative will help Cornwall to build on its already great progress with new staff including outreach workers, specialist mental health and substance misuse workers, and dedicated co-ordinators to reduce rough sleeping. It will also further provide funding for more bed spaces for emergency and settled accommodation.
George said, "I welcome this extra funding that will bring good results for our efforts to end rough sleeping in Cornwall and the rest of England. Cornwall has seen the largest reduction in rough sleepers since November 2017, decreasing by almost one third and this extra funding will help continue this great work helping people get assistance at an earlier stage."
