Redruth’s shops and highstreets will benefit from a major funding boost after the Government announced historic English shopping centres will be boosted by a £95 million regeneration fund.
Redruth was one of 69 pioneer towns selected by the government to help level up towns across the country. The projects will be aimed at turning disused buildings into shops, houses and community centres helping to breathe new life into our high streets.
The funding will also help support the wider economic regeneration of our towns with the South West receiving a total of £13.7million for towns helping to attract further future commercial investment.
George commented, “Towns like Redruth were once at the heart of the industrial revolution driving forward our country’s growth. We have made progress regenerating our towns in recent years with the new link road, developments around Tuckingmill, the prospect of South Crofty reopening and new jobs in industries like computer software. However, there is more to do.
“This new funding as part of the Government’s Historic Towns Fund will help back local projects to create prosperity and support the further revival of Redruth. Not only will this funding breathe new life into Redruth’s highstreets, it will also support the future growth of the town.
“I have always made economic regeneration one of my main priorities and I am pleased that our needs are being recognised and addressed by the government. I will be working with the local community to help shape our priorities and bid to the fund."
