George Eustice, MP for Camborne, Redruth and Hayle has welcomed news that Cornwall will become one of seven areas in the country to benefit from improved home care for the elderly.
The news advances plans set out in the NHS Long Term Plan to enable community teams to respond quicker to peoples' needs and prevent unnecessary hospital admissions. Quicker response times will help people to remain in their own homes, retaining independence whilst also being given support that they need.
Cornwall will begin to develop its urgent community response services with the design of the new service model ready for April this year. Full county roll out is anticipated by April 2021.
George said, "Locally across Cornwall we are fortunate to have a number of excellent hospitals delivering high quality care to those who need it most. From St Michael's Hospital in Hayle which is a national leader in breast surgery, to Camborne and Redruth Hospital which has a number of specialisms including stroke and prosthetics.
"Under the plans GPs, ambulance colleagues and partners from across health and care will have a real alternative to seeking a hospital admission – knowing they can request and receive a response within two hours or days based on what people need. This will improve outcomes for people, their families and also means that hospital beds are available for the people who need these very specialist services and expertise.”
