George Eustice, MP for Camborne, Redruth and Hayle, has today welcomed news that a new maternity unit and entrance will be built at Treliske as part of the largest ever single investment that Cornwall has seen in its health services.
As part of a package of new hospital upgrades announced by the Prime Minister to deliver world class facilities, funding will be released for the Women's and Children's Hospital scheme, with new investment of up to £100 million will deliver a new Women's and Children's Hospital wing at Treliske.
The investment will see the construction of a new building between the existing Tower Block and Trelawny Wing. This will house women’s and children’s services including maternity, neonatal care and gynaecology. The building will also become the new main entrance for the hospital with plans for changes to the layout of roads and a pedestrian zone to improve the environment and accessibility.
George said, "This is great news for Cornwall and all those who use the services at Treliske. In constructing this fantastic state of the art facility, the Government is demonstrating its commitment to delivering world class services in world class facilities. The investment will make a huge difference to patients throughout Cornwall and will help ensure that nurses and doctors have the best and latest facilities possible."
