Residents in the village of Troon achieved a major victory yesterday in protecting greenfield sites as a major planning appeal which would have seen a valuable greenfield site lost to housing was dismissed.
PA17-05617 had previously been turned down by Cornwall Council but had since been appealed by the developer. George Eustice, MP for Camborne, Redruth and Hayle worked tirelessly with Cllr Rachel Goodman to ensure that the Planning Inspectorate uphold Cornwall Council’s decision to refuse the scheme. It was clear that not only did residents not want the scheme, neither did the Council.
Not only is this a victory for residents, but it also sends a clear message that our greenfield sites are not open for development.
George said, “since I was elected in 2010, I have always said that there should be a principle of building on brownfield sites before greenfield sites, especially around our towns. Developments should also be done with communities, not to them. In the case of planning application PA17-0617 it was clear that any development would have led to a loss of valuable green space and opened the door to other potential developments in the future. I am glad that the Planning Inspectorate has dismissed the appeal and I will continue to work hard to protect our greenfield sites.”
