George Eustice, MP for Camborne, Redruth & Hayle, recently visited a group of young people at Carn Brea Leisure Centre taking part in the Get On Track Project, which is run by the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust in partnership with the local 2nd Chance Project. Get on Track is a five week project which works to improve the life chances of disadvantaged young people and employs retired Olympians to mentor young people not in education or employment and uses sport to teach life skills such as team work and problem solving. Representing the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust were retired Olympians, Georgina Geikie and Annie Vernon, both of who represented the UK at the 2012 Olympics.
George said of his visit to the project "I thoroughly enjoyed meeting the young people from Camborne and Redruth taking part in this project. We had some really interesting discussions about the prospects for the area and some of the challenges they have faced finding work. Sport can be a great way of inspiring and motivating young people and we are now starting to see the beginnings of a change in economic fortune locally with a great deal of new investment and with new industries like computer software and wave energy showing interest in Cornwall. I want to ensure that you people who grow up in Cornwall are able to access new opportunities as they arrive."
