Following Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s announcement of a £14 billion funding boost for schools across the country, schools have today found out how they are set to benefit. The South West has emerged as one of the clear winners, with an extra £175m and an increase of 5% per pupil to ensure that every child across the region receives a world class education.
The cash boost means that secondary schools across Camborne, Redruth and Hayle will all receive at least £5,000 per pupil next year, and primary schools will receive at least £4,000 per pupil from 2021-22. Meanwhile, the new funding also includes £780 million in 2020-21 to help children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to reach their full potential.
Commenting on today’s announcement, George Eustice, MP for Camborne, Redruth and Hayle, said, "I welcome today’s announcement, and I am pleased that schools across Camborne, Redruth and Hayle stand to gain. I have long campaigned to end the historic injustice of the way in which Cornwall is funded compared to the rest of the country, and I am glad that the Government has listened.
“Every pupil in every school in Camborne, Redruth and Hayle will get more money, and our fantastic local schools will have the certainty they need to plan, further improve and ensure that our young people get the very best start in life.”
