George Eustice, Member of Parliament for Camborne, Redruth and Hayle recently visited Redruth School to meet to meet staff and pupils to find out about the work that they have been undertaking and how they have been managing during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The government has committed to investing in schools and education as part of its plans to help level up our towns. The £2billion allocated to improve our schools this year is on top of a £14billion injection into the school system over the next three years.
The COVID-19 pandemic has placed an enormous strain on schools across the country. Time spent out of class means lower average academic attainment and its vital that we ensure that the Coronavirus pandemic does not have a lasting impact on their future. Moreover, the return to the classroom is also crucial for the welfare and health of children. Socialising with friends, playing sports, and exploring creative subjects are all important parts of how children grow up and learn.
George said: “It is brilliant to see Redruth School back welcoming pupils again and resuming their brilliant work teaching young people. I enjoyed meeting with the headteachers to hear more about their work. I know that headteachers, governors and all who work in our schools are working hard to ensure that our schools are as safe as possible. I would also like to thank all teachers, staff and everyone who contributes to children’s education for all that they have done and will continue to do for our children.
