George Eustice, Member of Parliament for Camborne, Redruth and Hayle has welcomed the new funding that has been secured to help regenerate Redruth’s High Street.
Historic England has today announced that the project will receive £1.68m in funding giving it the green light to begin local recovery and regeneration. Redruth is one of 68 historic high streets across England that have been offered government funding offering them a new lease of life, helping them recover from declining footfall and the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. The investment is only the first stage of funding with plans to see over £4.6m of heritage-led investment.
The scheme is centred around Fore Street, increasing its attractiveness to a wider range of residents and visitors and better exploiting its experiential potential.
George commented, “It is fantastic to see this new funding has been secured. Our local towns were once at the heart of the industrial revolution and our expertise in mining engineering was second to none.
“When I was first elected, I always made clear that economic regeneration in Camborne, Redruth and Hayle was my number one priority. I will continue to support the project as it grows and develops”.
Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said, "High streets sit at the heart of our communities and every part of the country deserves to have one they can be proud of. This fund will help breathe new life into high streets in towns and cities across the country - restoring them to their full glory so that they are beautiful places for people to shop, work and enjoy."
