George Eustice, Member of Parliament for Camborne, Redruth and Hayle has today welcomes the announcement by Local Government Secretary Robert Jenrick that the government will support local councils this winter.
The government has committed over £900 million to support councils response the COVID-19 pandemic. This brings the total funding given to councils since the start of the pandemic, to help with spending pressures, to £5.7 billion including a £1.1 billion Infection Control Fund.
Councils across the South-West have worked hard throughout the pandemic to support people and businesses. Cornwall Council is a good example of that ethic and they have benefited from an additional £45 million since the start of the pandemic to help the continue offering their services to local people.
George commented, “I am pleased at this announcement by the government committing an additional £1 billion to support councils through the coming winter. Since the beginning of the pandemic, this government has backed local councils with funding to support communities like ours in Cornwall and protect local services.”
